Functionality of pellet stoves

In its basic principle, a pellet stove works like a fireplace or wood stove: heat is generated by burning pellets. Depending on the type of pellet stove, this heat is then used differently. In contrast to a wood stove, however, a pellet stove has a pellet storage tank from which the correct amount of pellets is automatically taken and released for combustion. The pellets are transported by a screw conveyor into the combustion chamber, where they are ignited by an ignition fan.

Types of pellet stoves

You have the choice between two types of pellet stoves:

  • A single stove, to heat only a certain room
  • A single stove in combination with a water connection for heating further rooms

Advantages of pellet stoves

  • The prices of pellets are stable compared to other fuels
  • Pellet stoves as well as log wood stoves are environmentally friendly
  • Pellet stoves do not have to be manually supplied with wood
  • Pellet stoves have a high efficiency of about 90 percent
  • In contrast to wood-burning or wood-burning stoves, the ash container usually only needs to be emptied about once or twice a year
  • Pellet stoves can be networked, i.e. they can be conveniently regulated by smartphone and programmed for specific switching times (daily and weekly)
  • Pellet stoves can switch themselves off as soon as a certain temperature is reached

What is a pellet made of?

Pellets are made from sawdust and other wood waste in one pressing process. The size varies between 6 and 25 mm diameter. If the pellets are larger, they are called wood briquettes.
